Contacting Local Businesses on WhatsApp: Tips to Get Quick Answers

By the TownTrove team

For many local businesses in India, WhatsApp is the main way they talk to customers. A clear message gets you a faster answer and avoids misunderstandings later.

Write a complete first message

Instead of just “Hi” or “Price?”, include everything the business needs in one message:

  • What you need: the product, model, service or problem.
  • Your area or pin code, if delivery or a home visit is involved.
  • When you need it.
  • A photo, if it helps explain.

Message at the right time

Small business owners are often busy serving customers in person. Messages sent during working hours usually get faster replies. Avoid very late-night messages unless it is an emergency service.

Confirm the important details in writing

Before you visit or pay, ask the business to confirm the price, what is included, availability and the time of a visit. Having this in the chat helps if there is a disagreement later.

Stay safe

  • Never share OTPs, card details or UPI PINs on chat. No genuine business needs your UPI PIN to send you money.
  • Be careful with requests for full advance payment from businesses you have never visited.
  • Check that the number matches the one listed on the business’s listing or shop board.
  • Do not click unknown payment links. Pay by scanning the shop’s own QR code or through a trusted app.

Using TownTrove

Listings on TownTrove with a WhatsApp number have a WhatsApp button that opens a chat with a short starting message. You can edit it to add your details before sending.
